DIY decoration for Valentine's day/Wedding | J.M.

Hello, everyone!
As the Valentine's Day is coming I have made one very pretty DIY room decor, even if you are not into celebrating Valentine's day why not to make one? This DIY takes some time and patience, because of a big amount of flowers to be made, but the result is amazing!

For this DIY you'll need:
  • cardboard (cut out two hearts: one big - contour of the heart, second few times smaller - full heart)
  • ribbon
  • glue
  • crepe/tissue paper
  • scissors, paper knife
  • thread or yarn

Cut tissue paper in rectangular pieces. The length should be approximately twice as long as the width. Mine are approx. 6 x 12 cm but for smaller heart I actually made even smaller flowers, size of these rectangles are 4 x 8 cm.

For each flower will be needed several pieces of paper and depending of the size and fullness of the flower you will need 3 to 10 pieces (I took only 3 pieces for each flower). Fold paper pieces in an accordion fold (for fuller looking make smaller fold, I made about 1 cm folds)

Round up all the edges. Photo on the right - with rounded edges and without, later in this post you will find photo comparison of finished flowers, to see the difference in final product.

I folded my paper fold in half, this way I can better where is the middle point and also it will help to keep the thread in place. Wrap around thread and tie it up.

Unfold the fold and carefully separate the layers. Form the flower and cut off excess thread.

Here are side by side two flowers. On the right fold was rounded, but on the left not. Well, it is not a big difference, but in person the one on the right looks better.

Make as many flowers as needed to fully cover both hearts.

Measure the length of the ribbon. Glue one end of the ribbon to the inner heart and then cover it with flowers from both sides. Use hot glue gun or regular glue for paper but it may take more time for regular glue to dry. Cover both sides of outer heart with flowers, but leave a small gap (place for one flower) at the top middle part of the heart.

When both hearts are glued with flowers there will be these ugly sides, which can be covered with hearts but as I had no patience to make more, I just covered the edge of cardboard with glue and glued bottom layers of flowers.

Now time to attach inner heart to outer heart contour. Place hearts how they should be, lightly stretch the ribbon and glue it to the outer heart where the gap was left, glue flower on top. Turn around outer heart and glue the end of the ribbon and the last flower on top.

And the room decor for Valentine's day or weddings is done. In real life it look even more spectacular.

And here is video tutorial, which may help to understand better what I tried to explain here (still not sure about my ability explaining things)

Loads of love!
