3 DIY Room Decor Ideas Using Doily | J.M.

I have a few doilies laying on a shelf hidden in stuff. So I thought - I need to put them on display but not old-fashioned way. I ended up with three DIYs - luminary, basket/bowl and cushion cover.
All are so cute and pretty, I am glad that I finally made them.
Now let me tell you how to make them.

#1 Luminary

This one must be the quickest and the easiest one.
For this you will need:
  • a doily
  • a jar
  • a ribbon
  • a safety pin
  • a flameless candle

The doily and the jar should "match" the size. One of them should not be too big/small - just place the jar in the middle of the doily and then lift the sides of the doily to see how it looks.
If you like how it looks - check where to thread a ribbon in a doily (ribbon should go around the jar's neck).
Using a safety pin thread the ribbon around the edge at the measured distance from the center/edge.
After threading around the full circle the doily will look like a hat.
Both ends of the ribbon should be outside the "hat" and the same length.
Put the jar in the middle.
Pull both ends of the ribbon to close the "hat/sack".
Place the ribbon around the jar's neck and tighten.
Make sure everything lies evenly.
Tie the ribbon in a bow.
Place a flameless candle inside.

#2 Basket

For this DIY you will need:
  • a doily
  • white glue
  • a bowl

Put a doily in a bowl with some white glue (or 1:1 white glue and water mixture).
Soak it completely, make sure that it is all covered in glue (add some more if needed).
I lied my doily on the small bucket but it could be a bowl, a jar or anything in shape you like/want your doily basket to be.
Even out all bumps because when it all dries it will stay in that shape.
Because of the pattern of my doily, I pulled up the ends of it so that they would be a bit curvy instead of flat and sharp.
Let it dry completely, preferably overnight.
It came off the bucket very easy. I was scared that it will stick but actually, it came off without any effort.

#3 Cushion cover

For this DIY you will need:
  • a cushion cover
  • a doily
  • some felt or fabric scraps
  • scissors
  • a thread and a needle
  • pins

Take a piece of felt and cut out a flower stem and leaves.
Place the doily and the felt details on the cushion cover creating a flower.
Pin all in place (try to pin only to the top layer of the cushion cover).
When that is done stitch them to the cushion cover.
I did pretty light stitches avoiding them to show up.
