In this blog post, I am sharing an idea how to recycle a tin can and make DIY desk organizer for stationary.
You will need:
- tin can
- contact paper
- yarn
- glue
- scissors
- comb
Use a contact paper to cover a tin can. Measure and cut to fit the tin can and just stick on the tin can.
For the tassels, I used a yarn. At first, I tie a knot as a beginning point.
Next, wrap the yarn around the tin can and tied another knot
at the point where the yarn crosses the first knot.
Cut off excess.
Cut several short same size pieces of yarn.
Take three small pieces. Fold them in half.
Hold the ends and place the created loop under the long piece.
Pull the ends through the created loop.
Pull to tighten.
Repeat.
Comb the ends or just untwist the strands of fiber.
Even out and cut the ends straight.
Side by side comparison:
tassel ends are undone - yarn twists are separated to fibers - ends are combed.
When all tassels are done, place them around the tin can and tie the ends of the yarn in a double knot.
The knot you can hide under the tassel our comb the ends and turn it into one more tassel.
Glue all the tassels in place. I placed just a tiny drop of glue at the back of each tassel and stick to the tin can.
That's how it turned out:
For other two tin cans, I used two pieces and one piece of yarn for each tassel.
This one I messed up and glued the tassels backward.
Because this tin can is so small I made a lot of tassels and cut them super short.
